ABOUT THE CLUB
Wilmslow Lightning was established in September 2007 by Rosie Harris and Martina Perera. In April 2008 the Club was officially opened by ex England player and current England Roses Coach, Tracey Neville.
It was with great sadness that we lost Martina to cancer in October 2009, and we are very proud that her legacy lives on in our Club. The Martina Perera Trophy is awarded every year to a player who demonstrates not only a passion for netball but a passion to help others be the best they can be, a willingness to help out and someone who is always thoughtful, hard-working and a pleasure to be around.
There are over 200 players within the club. We range in ages from 7 years old (U8) through to the Seniors team (18+) and Ladies Back2Netball session.
Wilmslow is a friendly yet competitive club, and has gone from strength to strength over the years. We now have a regular number of girls selected to attend the Cheshire Academy, Cheshire pods, Manchester Thunder Youth Academy and the Excel Regional Academy. The coaches provide high quality coaching sessions and the players have the opportunity to play in the local leagues; Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Warrington and Reddish, as well as local tournaments. We have enjoyed annual trips attending PGL netball weekends and Disneyland Paris tournaments.
Parents are always welcome to come along and watch the match play. Please read the Parent Code of Conduct.
All our coaches are fully qualified and have been checked through the DBS by England Netball.
The coaches are supported by Team Managers who volunteer to take on a Team and organise the players in the leagues that they play in.
We have a very dedicated group of Volunteers that make up the Club Committee. All the volunteers involved within the club undergo DBS screening, and hold the relevant qualification where necessary and depending on the role
If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, whether it be on the committee or assisting at training or matches, please let us know. Any offers of help in whatever area are ALWAYS greatly appreciated.
